High Quality Training for youth
BrockusED is a sub organization of Brockus Project that works in LAUSD, Long Beach Unified School District with ongoing classes. We also provide master classes and residencies connected with our company touring work. All of the BrockusED programs are under the direction of award winning and internationally recognized master teacher Deborah Brockus. The BrockusRED dancers are also highly skilled teaching artists and we augment this group of teachers with other professionals from the community. Our teaching style is Whole Child method, focusing on well rounded happy kids.
The student community is the future or LA racially and ethnically BIPOC. We focus our work in underserved areas where the youth have limited access to art and exposure to the wide world around them. These youth are 65% Latinx, 20 Black, 5% Asian, 5% Pacific Islander, 5% White.
BrockusED is working to develop a pipeline for the future generation of artists with our teaching, workshops, residencies, black box showcases and larger productions.
After School program
New Perspectives is our after school program for grades 6-12. Students receive dance class in multiple styles during the week taught by the professional teaching artist of BrockusRED. The program also includes field trips to natural and cultural sites around LA. Students perform their own choreography in addition to the faculty pieces at the showing. Classes are held at BPStudios. This program is supported in part by a grant from the California Arts Council
IN School Program
We work in K-12 schools. Short term master class days and residencies. Full school year programs are supported in part by a grant from the California Arts Council and provided free of charge to the participating schools. 2020-2021 we are working in both the LA Unified School District and Long Beach Unified School District.

What People Are Saying
“To start, I would like to say a huge THANK YOU for this opportunity that has allowed my son to experience life at a whole new level. Ms. Deb and her crew have been an eye opener to my son as a new horizon. He has learned so much about not only dance but how much as individuals relate to arts...The field trips and the exposure to rhythmic patterns, the flow of water, the pounce of animals and being able to bring objects in our home to life has been so much fun. I would LOVE to continue with this program and hopefully broaden this with the other children as well.”

“From the moment Mart was dancing at school, she really felt she belong to a group, making first new friends but most importantly start knowing yourself. Since the moment from her first coming home with news on the dance class she was over the moon from excitement and felt strong in what she can achieve. Will she be a great dancer? For us that was never the goal but to see Marit change was a real joy.”

“Throughout those last couple of months, I had experienced so much and have found new ways to look at life and seeing many people’s personalities. I had got to experience the uniqueness of all the teacher’s ways of the way they move and got to put a little bit of each one of their style into the way I dance. I had met many new and old friends and each person was amazing. The choreography is awesome in each class because you can move your own way and be more open and free to put your style in the choreography ...”
